Top 10 Favorite Curly Hair Products

Now, I know I’m not the only one who opens up their bathroom cabinet drawers and see’s countless amount of different curly hair products. I’ve tried and used so many different products, yet I only have a handful that I truly love.  Everyones hair is different whether you have loose, tight,  kinky, or even coily hair. The products that I love and adore might not work the same on your hair, but there’s hundreds if not thousands of hair products out in the world that you could find that truly best suits your hair type. Today, I’m going to share with you guys my top 10 favorite products that I use faithfully, to say the least.

1.Creme of Nature “Moisture and Shine Shampoo”I love this product, it’s so hard for me to find a shampoo that really cleans my hair well, without drying it and this product definitely does not dry my curls out. I don’t always wash my hair with shampoo unless I feel buildup and after a wash with this Sulfate Free shampoo my buildup is all gone ! You can find this gem at any drugstore, prices range from $4.99 – $5.99.

2. Cantu  “Conditioning Co-wash”

By far one of my favorite co-washes. Whenever I don’t want to wash my hair with shampoo I like to wash with a cleansing co-wash as a dupe. This product leaves my curls feeling extra shiny and and oh so silky. This Co-wash is like a two in one it  cleanses and also moisturizes’s my curls without drying it out. You can get this at any drugstore for $4.99.

3. Garnier Fructose “Sleek&Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream”Now, I know what you guys might be saying, “Mary, Garnier works for your curls??” and honestly this product is a hit or miss for me. There are times where this product leaves my hair looking really defined and curly, but there are times where it doesn’t which causes unnecessary buildup. I like to apply this leave-in after I wash my hair thoroughly and it leaves my hair smelling like a tropical fruit. This retails for $4 at any drugstore.

4.Kinky-Curly “Knot Today Detangler”Say BYE-BYE to any knots you have in your hair. Having curly hair I easily get knots, and this bad boy will make sure knots are out. A little amount goes a long way with this detangler. This product ranges from $12-$14 and you can pick it up at Target or Walgreens.

5.Creme of Nature “Intensive Conditioning Treatment” This treatment works so well when you haven’t washed your hair in awhile. It restores the moisture back in your hair and hydrates your hair so much. This product cost $6 and you can get your hands on it at any drugstore.

6. Bumble and Bumble “BB Styling Creme”I like to apply this product on my fingertips then transfer onto my roots so I can add body and have my hair look more full and big. I use a very small amount and also apply on my ends. You can find this product at Sephora for $26.

7. Silicon Mix “Bambu Nutritive Leave-in”This is probably one of my favorite products that I own. I use this every time my hair is washed and y’all let me tell you this product works miracles the bamboo extract moisturizes my hair without weighing it down. I can go on and on about this product the grip and hold with out making it feel hard and crunchy is so nice. You can buy this online on Amazon for $12.

8. Taliah Waajid “Curly Curl Cream” The Curly Curl Cream works just like butter, I like to apply this on my edges rather than using “edge control” and also like put this on the ends of curls to seal the texture. It controls frizz and makes your hair smell so amazing all night long. You can buy this at your local Drugstore for $7.99 to $8.30.

9. Olive Oil “Replenishing Conditioner”One of my favorite conditioners, I use this Replenishing Conditioner as a deep condition. So after I wash my hair I keep this product in my hair over night then wash it the next day. It leaves my hair feeling very  moisturized and so defined. You can buy this at Walmart for $4.97.

10. Taliah Waajid “The Great Detangler”I like to apply this product as a leave-in. There’s no buildup and also makes your hair smell so refreshing. I don’t like to use it as a co-wash because it flattens my hair out. You can buy this at Walmart for $9.00.

Exciting News

As a one year gift here on WordPress I thought I’d share with you guys some exciting news…I’m so HAPPY to finally announce that “Just Call Me Mary” is now on Youtube !!!! New Chapter

Well after years of school I finally graduated, honestly never thought I’d get to this point so quickly. The fact that I won’t be roaming the halls, stressing over assignments seeing familiar faces over and over again hasn’t hit me just yet. Although I’ll miss all of the small things my school has done for myself and others, I’m so excited to see what the future holds for me. I have so many opportunities to look forward too, things to learn more about like myself. This new chapter will allow me to work on perfecting my craft, posting frequently, and hopefully starting my own  YouTube channel. This new chapter I will be majoring in Journalism and minoring in Communication. This new chapter will allow me to achieve goals that I thought were just dreams. This new chapter will make me hopeful. This new chapter will bring people who will uplift and motivate me to do and be better. This new chapter will bring success and positivity. Sneaker Trends

Sneakers for some people aren’t used for running  or working out anymore, now they’re strictly used for style. Sneakers are coming back in full force. Men, women, teens, kids, and even infants all have or will buy trendy sneakers. It felt like ever since Kanye West came out with the different style of Yeezy boosts by Adidas that the whole world needed to grab a pair of sneakers that are inexpensive and beautiful too. When people usually think of sneakers the first thing that comes into mind are Jordan’s, which range from 100 – 300 dollars depending on the style of the shoe, however there are 10x more brands that are just as cute, comfortable, and inexpensive too like;  Superstars, Flyknits, Huaraches, New Balances, Nike, Reeboks, Puma, Asics,  Roshes, etc. Those brands of shoes range from 60 – 200 (again depending on the style of what you want). You could wear each sneaker so differently. One could do a BOLD look by having both the shirt and pants be the same color and have the shoes be the center of attention or you could make it casual by wearing an off the shoulder tee and pair it with boyfriend jeans. I personally am a big fan of sneakers. I think that it adds the outfit “character” it gives the look a little “roughness”. Most if not all of my daily outfits are worn with sneakers. I tend to gravitate towards the neutral colors like black, grey, white, red, etc., but I’m trying to step outside of my box and get sneakers that are bright and colorful. If you aren’t a big fan of sneakers I think you should give it a try, try colors that go with everything first like black or white and then work your way up. Prom Season

Prom Season is almost here, junior and senior class girls have been waiting for this day for so long, the glitz and glamour the beauty in everything looks so effortless in movies, however there is so much more to it. The hassle of trying to buy a dress that’s unique and jaw dropping without having it be so expensive is very hard. Us females want the best of the best; we typically look at brands like; Faviana, Sherri Hill, Jovani, Terani, etc. we also look at the latest red carpet looks for some inspiration. Prom is the last dance we’ll have before we graduate (for seniors) so typically we want to go all out. Last years prom trend were two piece dresses, 2 pieces are worn all around the world and especially at prom 2015, this years trend for prom I predict it to be bold colors and prints, floral prints is coming in full effect with Sherri Hill’s prom 2016 spring collection site. ARE YOU READY TO SAVE SOME MONEY… there are a few online sites that are selling breath taking gowns for a fraction of the cost like; sophiaprom.com , prombelle.com , promgirl.com , simplydress.com, and much more. Use these amazing websites to save yourself money because prom is far from cheap. If you plan  on getting your nails, hair, and makeup done I suggest you call for appointments ahead of time… like NOW; makeup stores like MAC and Sephora are quickly getting filled up for this special day and you do not want to miss the opportunity to relax while you get pampered. Bryson Tiller Concert

Bryson Tiller an artist who’s fame is building up more and more each and everyday. The artist who made the hit singles that we all listen and sing along to; “Don’t”, “Exchange”, “Sorry not Sorry”, and much more. The artist who I went to see at the Brooklyn Bowl just last weekend. My cousins surprised me with tickets to see him in concert as a birthday present, and I couldn’t be any happier. The love that I have for this guy is unbearable and sure that might sound strange since he has no idea who I am but his music and lyrics are just so relatable that its kind of hard not to love him. For my concert outfit I went with something comfortable, chic, and cute. I wore a mini turtle neck tunic dress  from Topshop in a heather grey color (price $38) I paired it with my faux fur vest from Xhilaration and as for shoes I wore my black booties from Tilly’s. For hair I decided to tame my curls and get my hair straighten. Lastly makeup, which I never wear, my cousin and I decided to go get our makeup done last minute and after going to many makeup stores we finally walked into a store that wasn’t booked. We got our makeup done at Benefit Cosmetics. For those who have never gotten their makeup done at Benefit if you buy 5 or more of their products you get a full face of makeup done for free. The five products I got were Real Sexy Steal mascara/liner/remover minis, they’re real tinted primer, brow zing, hard angle brush, and gimmie brow. Culture Show

I recently attended a culture show which was hosted by CSUN Habesha Student Union (HSU) students. Not only was it my first culture show I’ve ever been to, but I was privileged enough to be one the models. The culture show was filled with so much laughter thanks to  Filmon  Yohannes “Gergish” and Nathan  Araya “Lil Nate” who were the hosts and entertained everyone by their comedy skits and their raw and real personalities. Both the hosts left everything on stage, they didn’t hold anything back. When the audiences weren’t laughing hysterically they were mesmerized by the beautiful fashion and  jewelry pieces  that stepped foot on stage. The fashion ranged from traditional Habesha dresses called a Kemis, to unisex  Africa labeled shirts and tanks. The culture show also had poetry/short stories which was said by one of CSUN’s finest students. There was endless amount of dancing and music, the HSU students choreographed traditional Habesha dances that left everyone speechless. The food we all ate was called injera which is a traditional Ethiopian/Eritrean dish. This culture show taught not only me but the hundreds of people who attended how close-knit the African community really is and how our culture is so important to embrace and to love. The show made me even more proud to be Ethiopian. So proud of all the Habesha Student Union students and especially Eden A. who worked so hard to make their first Culture Show be the one to remember, and trust me they did just that. Gift Guides

With the holidays coming up and stores having amazing deals. Getting a gift for your significant other, family, friends, coworkers, or  even teammates might be a little difficult to do. Not knowing what they want, what their size is, or how much to give is considered “ok” . I’ll be listing gift ideas that work for both males and females. Hope you enjoy. ❤️

– Gift cards (if you don’t know what their shoe size or clothing size is; a gift card of their favorite store will mean a lot )

– Makeup (when in doubt makeup would be a safe bet) 
– Lotion/ Spray (everyone loves to smell good so giving someone perfume or even lotion of their favorite scent would be a great gift) 

– Fuzzy socks ( this might be a weird one but since it’s getting chilly fuzzy socks would make ANYONE happy) 

– Watch/jewelry (some sort of good quality jewelry (doesn’t have to be expensive ) will make any guy or girl happy ) 

– A photo collage ( this is definitely one of my favorites having a photo album and having different  pictures inserted in it will be so thoughtful) 

– Out to eat (take you’re loved one out and treat him/her to their fav restuarant) 

– Gift Sets ( gift sets of anything your family, friends, or loved ones love will save you so much money and give you more items) 

– Card ( write down how much you appreciate and how grateful you are to have them in your life it’ll mean so much)

Remember you DONT have to spend so much money when buying a present its the thought that counts !

All About FUR

Fall is finally here which means goodbye to summer clothing and hello to layering, flannels, button ups, coats, and FUR. Fur coats and vest is such a staple piece, I personally think everyone should have in their wardrobe. Fur vests can easily spice up a boring outfit, it can add character, and it can also have many people turn their heads once you walk by. Whenever I wear my fur vest I get this boost of confidence as if i were to be a different person. The different styles, colors, patters, prints, textures are endless. One could style it with a little black dress or with boyfriend jeans and strappy heels.Their are a endless amounts of ways of how one could wear it. If you’re on the hunt of finding a fur vest but don’t want to splurge Forever 21, H&M, and even Target are selling them for inexpensive prices. Have fun this fall & winter season and grab a fur vest/coat  and own it. Until next time..XO

Homecoming…

School dances never really were my thing, however it being my senior year I HAD to go to my last homecoming dance. I got nominated homecoming queen, and got asked to be someone’s date for the dance. Getting my nails done, hair done, and make up done with my friends got me excited for the dance to start. I decided to wear my 16th birthday dress which was a high low, but I went to get the “low” part of the dress cut to make it  short, this not only saved me so much money but time as well. (Ladies if you have dresses that are in a good condition and is beautiful there is no need to buy another dress ).  I paired it up with some sliver glittery heels which were from Aldo. The day of the dance I was surrounded with my close friends and my date to homecoming and things couldn’t be anymore perfect, there were endless amount of dancing, smiling, and so much love being passed around at the dance. If your homecoming passed I hoped you enjoyed it, and If yours is coming up have fun, and enjoy all the excitement that will be coming your way!
